After a long day of travel yesterday, we awoke in our rooms to a breakfast of coffee, fruit, orange juice, cereal or yogurt with granola followed by a delicious cinnamon bun. After breakfast, we gathered together for our first lecture by Dr. Edward Pfeiler "On insights into dispersal, demographic history and speciation in Sonoran desert insects using mitochondrial DNA sequences".
After an engaging lecture, we disbanded for lunch and a siesta where most of us relaxed by the pool. Later in the day, we discussed a paper before going off to an amazing dinner of beef and chicken street tacos, tamales, Mexican rice, more yummy fruit. Personally, I would have been content with a bowl of their salsa and chips which delighted the taste buds. We drank Jamaica, which one of the students described as "happiness". Needless to say, we were swayed and ordered a round and we can all agree the description was apt.Some of us walked around the town center in the shadow of a beautifully old church looking out onto a garden with a gazebo in the middle. After our walk, we retired for the night inside our comfortable rooms preparing for another exciting day.
